Q - I have no dance experience whatsoever, will this be a problem?

A- Not at all, our beginners classes are designed for the absolute beginner, and we start out very slow and ease the students into moves. We've been in business since 2004, and have taught thousands of students since then, mostly all beginners. So we pretty much have it down to a science. We cater mostly to beginner adults, just like you, and 90% of our students have never ever taken a dance class in their lives.

Q- I'm a 34 year old woman, am I too old? Will I feel out of place?

A- Not at all, most of our students are in their mid twenties, and a good fraction of them are in their thirties. On average, about half of our students are also female. And nobody ever feels out of place in our classes, all of our instructors are top notch "people persons" and know how to make students feel at ease. Since we do not cater to professional dancers-but rather beginners-we keep a positive environment and don't believe in "negative reinforcement." Our first goal is to make sure you're laughing and having FUN. Once that is accomplished, you are able to learn without pressure. And we only allow adults in the main classes, the kiddies have separate classes on Saturdays.

Q- Are the classes really for beginners? And adult only?

A- Yes, we wouldn't lie to you! And plus, we wouldn't still be in business after five years if they really weren't. We promise. Come in and take a free trial class and see for yourself, you have nothing to lose!

Q- Where are you located? Is there parking?

A- Yes, we have street parking available, which most people never have a hard time getting. Or we also are able to use a pay lot next to us for only $2/hr. We are also located in a very nice neighborhood, right next to a church(Lakeview/Lincoln Pk Area) and are right by both the 'L' and busses, and just 10 minutes off of 90/94 and LSD. We are at 1439 W Wellington Ave (off of Southport & Lincoln Ave's). You can see a Mapquest of our location HERE

Q- Is there a level 2 class I can take after level 1?

A- Yes, there sure is. We offer a Level 2 Breakdance Class on Thursday nights. The level 2 classes are pretty much just a mix of whatever we feel like teaching that day, depending on the skill level of the class. So it's a very free form type of class. After your first week of Intro To Break, if we give you approval, you can even start level 2 if you purchase the Standard Package. So you could actually come and start level 2 right away concurrently with level 1. We want you to get your bboy learning on, yo!

Q- Do you guys offer drop in rates? Can I just pay as I go?

A- No. Because our classes are on a progressive lesson plan, we do not allow drop ins. The program is designed to build upon itself, so having random students drop in just doesn't work. It wouldn't be fair to the existing students to have to take time explaining to you what a six step is or whatever, make sense? Cool.

Q- Do you guys offer Hip-Hop Dance Classes?

A- We sure do offer Breakdance Chicago Hip-Hop Dance Classes. They are taught on Monday nights by the legendary Al Tamper. Come on in and take a free trial class!

Q- I heard you guys offer house dance classes? What's House Dance Chicago?

A- You heard right lil' buckeroo. We do have house dance classes. House Dance Chicago is a collaborative venture between BDC and 5 Magazine. Together we help to teach the art of house dancing and spread some of the knowledge of the dance and music that started right here in Chicago. They are taught by Czarina Mirani & Carlos Morris. Check out the HDC website and feature on Metromix TV.

Q- What is your current class schedule? Do you have a schedule available after the next session?

Our current schedule can be found HERE. If you don't see a future date you're looking for, it's because we are too busy traveling the world and being awesome. Okay just kidding, we most likely haven't gotten around to either figuring it out yet or its too far down the line.

Q- What is BreakFit™?

Well we thought you'd never ask! Okay, so what just exactly is BreakFit™? Well, BreakFit™ is both a concept and its own class. It stands for Breakdance Fitness (we're so clever, we know) and its a way that we try and incorporate you (the student!) staying fit and getting a good workout while also learning how to break! The actual BreakFit™ Class itself, its like Breakdance Bootcamp. We mix in traditional cardio (jumping jacks, running in place, pushups, crunchies, crabwalks, etc.,) along with some basic breaking moves (six steppin, uprockin', etc.) You'll laugh, you'll cry (okay maybe not), but you WILL get a workout. We breakers are in great shape for a reason...

Q- What will we be learning in the classes?

A- The Intro to Break Class is a fundamentals class, meaning you'll be learning the basic fundamentals of bboying. We also teach the importance of understanding body movement, and the science behind it, from a physics point of view. So even just your normal dancing will greatly improve as you begin to understand the mechanics of body movement and momentum.

Both the hip-hop and house class is done all on your feet, standing up. You will be taking choreography from the instructor, and build up a series of "eight-counts" throughout the class, until you get to a final routine towards the end of class. Each day of each class has a brand new routine, never the same routine twice! It is REAL HIP-HOP DANCE and house dancing, not some other form of dance masquerading as such. You can read more about this in our Lesson Plans.

Q- Can I start the second week?

Yes. The second week is the last week we allow students to enter the 6 week session. We can either pro-rate you or you can make up the class another time or day.

Q- I'm not sure about this, is there a way I can just check out the classes?

A- Absolutely, we have a try before you buy policy, so you can come out and even participate in the first class with no obligation, and if it's not for you, walk away and pay nothing. You have nothing to lose. Come on out and get fresh!

Q- Can I come twice a week?

A- YES! We offer different types of class packages where you can mix and match and choose how much or how little you want to come. We usually offer up to 7 classes a week, you can come to all of them if you wanted to!

Q- What happens if I miss a week?

A- Although every week is on the same lesson plan, if you miss an entire week, you may make up any missed classes the following week. Our policy is that we don't believe in students "forfeiting" classes. We will work around you in most cases and try to catch you up as best we can. You are also allowed up to two classes to make up another session, too.

Q- How much does it cost?

A- We offer different types of packages to mix and match the different classes. Class terms and packages are for six weeks.
Our current package options are:

  • $139.00 - Standard Package (12 Classes Total)

Q- Do you offer gift certificates?

We sure do. We can email them to you in a jiffy!

Q- Do you offer one on one classes or private classes?

Yes. Please click here for rates and more info.

Q- My son is 5 years old. Is this too young?

Yes. There is a minimum age of 8 years old to enter into any BDC Kids Group class. However, if you really really wanted to, we can take your child in a private class. Although to be quite honest, we'd heavily try and talk you out of it. Have other 5 year olds learned how to break? You saw them on YouTube? Sure, it's possible. But it's the exception, not the norm. Chances are, your child will not have the ability at such a young age to comprehend what is needed to learn how to break. Trust us on this one, we've been doing this a long time.

Q- When are your kids classes?

They are held on Saturdays. The time may vary from session to session, so join our mailing list to get updates, or just check the website for the current schedule. If you don't see what you're looking for, it's probably not scheduled yet.

Q- My son/daughter is really talented! They should be in the adult class.

While we are sure your child is talented, this is a non-negotiable policy. The adult class is just that, a class for adults.

Q- Can my child take a hip-hop or house dance class?

Unfortunately at this time, no. We only offer the Kids & Teens Breakdance Classes.

Q- Do you guys do performances/workshops/parties, etc?

You damn skippy! Check out our Performance page for more details. We'll come out and rock your event!

Q- What are your rates for performances?

That's going to vary. The first thing you're going to want to do is go to our Performance page and look around and then get in contact us. We'll then provide you with a quote.

Q- Can you guys do this performance for free? It will be great exposure.

While we're honored for you asking us, 99% of the time the answer will be no. UNLESS you are a Charity, NPO, or NFP. Then feel free to ask us, we do those types of events all the time.
